How to Calculate a Tip
The formula is simple: Bill × Tip % = Tip Amount. Then add the tip to the bill for your total.
Quick mental math tricks
- 20% tip: Move the decimal left one place (10%), then double it. On $65: $6.50 × 2 = $13.
- 15% tip: Find 10% then add half. On $80: $8 + $4 = $12.
- 18% tip: Find 20% then subtract 2%. On $50: $10 − $1 = $9.
